TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto highlighted Indonesia’s commitment to multilateral cooperation and strategic partnerships amid shifting geopolitical dynamics as he attended the 2026 BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Saturday.

A press release from the Presidential Secretariat’s Press, Media, and Information Bureau (BPMI) noted that his attendance allowed Indonesia to voice its national stance while shaping the future of global governance.

The 2026 BRICS Summit carries the theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability," emphasizing the importance of resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainable development in addressing various global challenges.

Prabowo joined fellow world leaders in a closed-door session titled "Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism," aimed at building more robust international frameworks.

Opening the session, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed that New Delhi’s 2026 BRICS chairship puts human welfare and shared values at the heart of global progress.

"I am very pleased to welcome you all to India. India's leadership in BRICS is based on a people-centered and humanity-first approach. Resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability have always been our priorities," Modi said.

The gathering offers Prabowo a key platform to advance Jakarta's foreign policy priorities while deepening ties across member nations.

Beyond the primary session, the Indonesian president and his counterparts are slated to tour the "Bharat Innovates" and "BRICS @20" exhibitions.

The itinerary continues with an official group photo and a ceremonial tree planting. The opening day of the 18th BRICS Summit will conclude with a formal banquet hosted for attending heads of state.

Through its active role at the summit, Indonesia reaffirms its positioning as a bridge builder, unifying Global South interests to foster a fairer, more resilient world order.
