Janice Tjen Confirmed to Skip Asian Games for China Tourney

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian women's tennis star Janice Tjen confirmed she will not be able to represent Indonesia at the 2026 Asian Games as she is set to swing in the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing.

Tjen announced the decision in a social media post on Friday. According to her, the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) did not grant her the exemption to compete in the Asian Games.

"After much consideration, I have made the difficult decision that I will not be able to compete in this year's Asian Games, which will overlap with the mandatory WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing," Tjen said.

Tjen admitted that the decision was not easy, as she has always felt happy and proud when given the opportunity to represent Indonesia in international events.

Tjen also reminisced about the numerous opportunities she has had with the national team, including winning medals at the Asian Games and SEA Games, and helping Indonesia achieve promotion to the 2026 Billie Jean King Cup.

"Representing Indonesia on the international stage means a lot to me. I am always proud to carry the Indonesian name and flag with me every week on the WTA Tour," she said.

The 24-year-old Jakarta-born tennis player also expressed her appreciation to Indonesian tennis fans for their continued support.

Janice stated that she will continue to strive to give her best performance to bring honor to Indonesia in world tennis championships.

"I will continue to give my best to make Indonesia proud on the world stage, and I hope to get another opportunity to represent Indonesia in the future," said Janice.

Janice has previously represented Indonesia in several multi-sport events. At the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, she competed in the women's doubles event and won a bronze medal alongside Aldila Sutjiadi.

Meanwhile, at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, Janice clinched a gold medal in the women's doubles with Aldila, a gold medal in the women's team event, and a bronze medal in the women's singles event.
