TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), said that the transportation system in Indonesia has not been fully integrated. According to him, the government needs to complete the Draft Law on the National Transportation System (RUU Sistranas) so that this problem can be resolved.
"This Sistranas is important and we must complete it immediately, so that it can be an umbrella for various other aspects of transportation," said Agus in his written statement, Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
According to him, the RUU Sistranas is a legal basis for the process of planning a transportation system in an integrated national network. "Of course we need to integrate all of this, so that the planning and management of the national transportation system across modes and also across regions will be better in the future," he said.
His ministry is also committed to strengthening a more efficient national transportation system. He said that this responsibility was a directive from President Prabowo Subianto.
According to him, the development of the transportation system in Indonesia is very important for the government to carry out so that Indonesia can perch in seventh position as the largest economy in the world. This increase, said AHY, is in line with the projection of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the period 2020-2030, based on GDP Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) adjusted.
"There seems to be no other reason than for us to focus on continuing infrastructure development, supporting an increasingly efficient and integrated transportation system," he said.
Agus assessed that improving the transportation system in Indonesia is also a support for national mobility. Especially in the Java region which is the focal point of economic growth in Indonesia.
He also asked the government to accelerate the preparation of the draft government regulation (RPP) on high-speed trains. According to him, the regulation will be a guideline in the process of building and operating high-speed trains.
