What Gianni Infantino Has to Say About World Cup Stake Sale Plan

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the plan to establish a private subsidiary to sell World Cup shares is not an obligation.

"FIFA Forward Enterprise, or FFE, is actually a proposal, an offer. It's part of a democratic process a consultation process and, above all, it is an opportunity but not an obligation," Infantino said in a video released by FIFA, as reported by beIN Sports on Thursday, July 30, 2026.

According to him, the plan to establish a private subsidiary to manage the commercial rights to FIFA competitions, including the World Cup, is a golden opportunity to accelerate the development of football worldwide.

However, Infantino reiterated that the proposal is merely an offer, not an obligation for FIFA member associations.

Previously, several parties, including UEFA and the European Leagues, expressed opposition to the planned sale of World Cup shares. Both organizations believe the World Cup should not be an asset to be traded to private investors.

Infantino explained that the proposal aims to unlock commercial value that has so far been underutilized.

He said the establishment of the FIFA Forward Enterprise remains subject to approval through a democratic vote of FIFA's 211 member associations and the approval of the FIFA Council.

"Capturing that value requires additional expertise, additional insight, distinct from governing and developing the sport," he said.

According to Infantino, the subsidiary will solely manage the commercial aspects of all FIFA competitions, including partnerships, broadcasting rights, licensing, and various new ventures. The proceeds, he said, will be used for the benefit of all 211 FIFA member associations.

Infantino also denied that the move would change the face of football. He believes fans will benefit from the increased funding it generates.

"Fans from everywhere in the world would gain immeasurably from this game-changing potential because it will transform football in their countries," Gianni Infantino said.
