TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The call for the formation of an independent joint fact-finding team (TGPF) has become a demand from the coalition of civil society in the case of the attack on human rights activist, Andrie Yunus. The Democracy Advocacy Team urged President Prabowo Subianto to promptly establish a TGPF involving civil society elements by issuing a presidential decree.

The formation of this independent TGPF has also been supported by Saurlin P. Siagian. "If the president forms the team, that would be good," said the Commissioner for Monitoring and Investigation of the National Commission on Human Rights of Indonesia (Komnas HAM) when contacted on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.

They stated that the formation of TGPF is urgent. They claim that, although the police's efforts to announce the alleged perpetrators are progressive, the police may be reluctant to investigate active military personnel involved in the case.

Based on information from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Military Police Center, four members of the Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) unit have been designated as alleged perpetrators in the case of acid spraying. The four of them were reportedly detained by the TNI Military Police on March 18.

"Therefore, forming a TGPF is good, meaning to provide strong authority for an investigation," Saurlin said.

However, they mentioned that Komnas HAM and the government have not held any further discussions regarding the formation of the TGPF. On the other hand, they stated that their institution has been monitoring the case of the attack on Andrie Yunus by interviewing several witnesses.

However, they mentioned that they could not provide information about the witness interviews. "We will inform you later," they said.

Coordinating Minister for Legal, Human Rights, and Immigration Affairs, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, has not responded when asked about the demand to form an independent TGPF in the case of Andrie Yunus.

Previously, Andrie Yunus, who often criticized the TNI Law and the expansion of the military's role in civil space, was sprayed with acid while on Salemba I-Talang Street, Central Jakarta, on Thursday night, March 12, 2026. Two unknown individuals riding a motorcycle approached Andrie from the opposite direction and sprayed him with a dangerous solution.

The corrosive chemical liquid hit Andrie's right body parts, such as his eyes, face, chest, and hands. Some of the victim's clothes also melted due to the acid. The results of Andrie's medical examination showed that he suffered serious burns on 24 percent of his body. Andrie is currently still undergoing treatment at Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National General Hospital (RSCM).
