Why Indonesia's PSSI Adjusts FIFA Asean Cup Ticketing System

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) has adjusted its ticketing system ahead of the FIFA ASEAN Cup. This was confirmed by PSSI secretary-general Yunus Nusi on Tuesday, stating that they will no longer employ the previous system used for the 2026 AFF Cup.

Supporters' disappointment over the Indonesian national team's failure to qualify for the 2026 AFF Cup was compounded by the ticketing system's chaos. Several ticket holders were unable to attend the Indonesia vs. Vietnam match at Pakansari Stadium, Cibinong, Bogor Regency, late Monday, August 3, 2026, because the ticket barcodes could not be read by the ticketing machine.

Tempo interviewed two football fans from Sukabumi and Bogor who were barred from entry due to the system error. They received their tickets from relatives. Tempo experienced a similar fate after purchasing tickets from a scalper. The scanner displayed the same message: Barcode already used.

The PSSI review arrived at two conclusions. The first was a barcode scanning system error, which mainly affects complimentary ticket holders. "We distributed them to football families, coaches' families, former national team players, and the Bogor Regency and Bogor City governments. We distributed thousands," Yunus said.

The second cause was counterfeit tickets sold by ticket scalpers.

Yunus claimed to have provided a solution on the spot. "I instructed the ticketing and security departments to allow in complimentary ticket holders whose tickets were deemed duplicates by the system," he said. But some fans interviewed by Tempo at Pakansari Stadium did not receive the same dispensation.

The Indonesian national team failed to advance to the semifinals of the 2026 AFF Cup after losing 0-3 to Vietnam and drawing 1-1 with Singapore in their final two group stage matches.

Coach John Herdman will have to hone his squad for the FIFA ASEAN Cup, which will take place at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (GBK) in Central Jakarta and Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung Regency from September 21 to October 6, 2026.

In this tournament, which is part of the FIFA calendar, Rizki Ridho and his teammates are in Group A alongside Malaysia, Singapore, and India.
