TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued a warning on Friday regarding the impact of the formation of elongated convergence and confluence areas across several regions of Indonesia, which could trigger the potential for rain cloud growth and significant weather.

BMKG forecaster Yuyun Wulandari explained that this combination of atmospheric dynamics is influenced by a cyclonic circulation forming in the Pacific Ocean north of Papua.

"These atmospheric conditions can increase rain cloud growth potential around the cyclonic circulation area and along the convergence and confluence areas," she said.

Yuyun explained that wind slowdown or convergence areas were observed forming in Aceh, West Sumatra, Central Kalimantan to West Kalimantan, Southeast Sulawesi to Central Sulawesi, the Banda Sea, Central Papua to Cenderawasih Bay, and the Papua Highlands to Papua.

Meanwhile, the national confluence or wind confluence area is predicted to stretch across the Java Sea, the Indian Ocean south of East Nusa Tenggara to southern Java, the Banda Sea, the Timor Sea, the Seram Sea, and the Arafura Sea.

The impact of these atmospheric dynamics has prompted an early warning for potential heavy to very heavy rainfall in Maluku.

For the weather forecast across major cities in western Indonesia, BMKG urges vigilance for the chance of thunderstorms in Tanjung Selor, as well as light rain in Banda Aceh, Medan, Padang, Jambi, Serang, Pontianak, Banjarmasin, and Samarinda.

On the other hand, sunny to partly cloudy conditions are predicted in the western region for Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang, Bengkulu, Palembang, Pangkal Pinang, Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, and Palangka Raya, as well as haze in Bandar Lampung and Yogyakarta.

Meanwhile, weather distribution in major cities in eastern Indonesia indicates the potential for moderate rainfall in Mamuju and Ambon, and light rain in Makassar, Kendari, Manado, Manokwari, Nabire, Jayapura, Jaya Wijaya, and Merauke.

"Meanwhile, thick clouds are forecast for Denpasar, Kupang, Palu, Gorontalo, Ternate, and Sorong, while the Mataram region is expected to experience the potential for smoke or fog," Yuyun added.
