Concacaf Raises Due Process Concerns Over FIFA's New Proposal

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) has expressed concern over FIFA's new proposal to form the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) as it does not comply with due process.

"During the meeting, the membership expressed deep concerns about the lack of due process surrounding the proposal, the artificially short deadline imposed, and the absence of any review or approval by the relevant FIFA governance bodies," Concacaf said in a statement on its official website on July 30, as quoted by ANTARA.

Upon learning of the FFE proposal to make World Cup shares available to private parties, Concacaf scheduled a meeting of its 41 member association presidents and FIFA council members.

Concacaf stated that the need for private equity investment to fund new and existing FIFA Forward programs was questioned after the most profitable FIFA World Cup in history.

The joint discussions also reinforced the need for greater transparency and good governance. Consequently, Concacaf and its 41 members rejected FIFA's new proposal.

Concacaf tasked its FIFA Council members with interacting with FIFA to determine how its substantial reserves could be used to increase FIFA Forward funding for the development of soccer across the region.

In addition, it gives the FIFA Council members the duty to instruct the FIFA President to ensure that any matter follows the proper governance process through the FIFA staff and the FIFA Council, in accordance with the FIFA Statutes.

Through these actions, Concacaf reaffirms that the future of football and its greatest assets must remain in the hands of the football family.

Concacaf added that its top priority is the confederation, united by a love for football. Guided by this philosophy, Concacaf has built an organization based on service, transparent governance, and long-term football management from the ground up over the past ten years.

"History has shown FIFA and the football family what happens when the custodians of the game lose sight of these values," Concacaf said.
