Palace Denies Prabowo Will Reshuffle Cabinet Soon

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi dismissed rumors that President Prabowo Subianto would soon reshuffle the cabinet. "There is currently no reshuffle," Prasetyo said in a video statement from the Presidential Secretariat on Thursday night, July 30, 2026.

He stated that Prabowo only intends to appoint new officials to fill vacant seats, such as several deputy minister positions currently unoccupied.

"If, for example, there are any, it might be to fill the vacancies left by officials who have recently departed from their positions due to changes," the Gerindra Party politician said.

There are at least two deputy minister positions currently vacant, namely the deputy minister of agriculture after Sudaryono became the Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), and the deputy minister of immigration and correction after Silmy Karim became a suspect in a corruption case.

Prasetyo stated that Prabowo does not plan to replace existing cabinet officials in the near future. "But indeed, frankly, we and President have not yet discussed plans for any replacements or reshuffle in the near future," he said.

The decline in President Prabowo's electability in the latest survey by Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) has sparked rumors of a cabinet reshuffle. Jamiluddin Ritonga, a political communication expert from Esa Unggul University, said that Prabowo needs a major evaluation of his cabinet to improve his electability.

The SMRC survey results showed that in the past 9 months, Prabowo's electability in a semi-open simulation has decreased from 34.9 percent in November 2026 to 14.5 percent in the July 2026 survey. Meanwhile, during the same period, the electability of West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi increased from 19.7 percent to 35 percent.

These survey results are in line with the decrease in public satisfaction with Prabowo's performance. In November 2025, public satisfaction with Prabowo's performance was at 81.2 percent, but it dropped to 51.1 percent in July 2026.

According to Jamiluddin, the decline in electability should be a warning sign for Prabowo. "It should be a yellow light for Prabowo if he wants to run in the next presidential election," he said in his statement on Friday, July 30, 2026.

He added that if Prabowo's electability continues to decline, then his chances of being elected in the 2029 presidential election will be relatively small. Furthermore, if Prabowo fails to improve the economic, political, and law enforcement conditions, his electability could further plummet.

Therefore, Jamiluddin stated that Prabowo must find a fairly drastic solution, whether he likes it or not. This includes evaluating all ministers in the fields of economy, politics, and law. "Prabowo must be firm and bold in reshuffling the ministers in these three fields," he said.
