What Did the Palace Say After Survey Showed Prabowo's Electability Declining?

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Presidential Palace has responded to the decline in the public opinion survey results regarding President Prabowo Subianto. Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) noted that the Gerindra Party chair has lost points in satisfaction and electability levels over the past nine months.

The State Secretary Minister, Prasetyo Hadi, stated that they are not worried about the survey results. "Since the beginning, we have always conveyed that we are not working to seek surveys," he said in a statement released by the Presidential Secretariat on Thursday night, July 30, 2026.

The government, according to Prasetyo, is confident that President Prabowo's programs are beneficial for the people. Therefore, all ministries and institutions will continue to work on the programs proposed by the President.

"We never solely focus on or work just to chase a survey. But from what we have been working on, we are confident that the people will be able to accept what we have implemented as campaign promises," he said.

He stated that the government understands that the Indonesian nation has a common goal. That is, to become more advanced, prosperous, self-reliant in various fields, food security, energy, industrialization, and downstreaming.

The survey institute, SMRC, previously released the latest electability survey results on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. The results indicate that President Prabowo Subianto will not win the general election if it were held today.

Prabowo only occupies the second position in the semi-open presidential election simulation conducted by SMRC. "If the presidential election were held now and Prabowo ran as a candidate, he would likely not be re-elected," said the Executive Director of SMRC, Deni Irvani, in his statement on Wednesday.

According to Deni, the survey results titled "Presidential Candidates' Electability" show that Prabowo Subianto received 14.5 percent of the votes from respondents. He is behind the West Java Governor, Dedi Mulyadi, who received 35 percent of the votes and is in first place.

Deni explained that in the last 9 months, Prabowo's electability in the semi-open simulation has decreased from 34.9 percent in the November 2026 survey to 14.5 percent in the July 2026 survey. Meanwhile, during the same period, Dedi Mulyadi's electability has increased from 19.7 percent to 35 percent.

Deni explained that the survey population includes all Indonesian citizens with voting rights. 749 of them were randomly selected, and those with telephones were interviewed over the phone (83.8 percent), while those without telephones were interviewed face-to-face (16.2 percent).

This proportion reflects the number of people who use and do not use mobile phones. The margin of error for this survey is approximately 3.7 percent. The last survey was conducted on July 5-19, 2026.
