TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have agreed on a contract for the procurement of the BrahMos missile system as part of defense cooperation between the two countries. The agreement was signed during a bilateral meeting at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.

The missile procurement contract is one of 16 cooperation documents signed by Indonesia and India across various fields, ranging from defense, energy, and health to culture and technology.

Prime Minister Modi stated that the trust between Indonesia and India is growing stronger. "This is reflected in the cooperation in security and defense, as well as maritime cooperation," he said in a joint statement alongside Prabowo.

The procurement of missiles from India stands out as one of the key cooperation points finalized today. "Procurement contract for BrahMos missile defense system between BrahMos Aerospace and the Indonesian Ministry of Defense," reads point number 12 of the working document announced after the Prabowo-Modi meeting.

In the working document released after the session, the procurement contract for the BrahMos missile defense system is formally listed as point 12. The document notes that the collaboration is being carried out between BrahMos Aerospace and the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia.

In addition, point 13 of the cooperation document outlines an agreement for the procurement of other missiles. "Agreement for the procurement of air-to-air missiles (AAM) between Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and Republikorp," the working document states.

PM Modi is currently on a three-day visit to Indonesia. He arrived in Jakarta on Monday, July 6, 2026. Besides visiting the capital, Modi is also scheduled to travel to Yogyakarta to tour the Prambanan Temple.

President Prabowo officially welcomed Modi at a state dinner at the Merdeka Palace on Tuesday. They also held a closed-door bilateral meeting attended by their respective delegations, followed by a luncheon.

A number of strategic memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between Indonesia and India were signed at the Merdeka Palace. The meeting ultimately yielded 16 agreements between the two nations.

In the presence of President Prabowo and PM Modi, one of the exchanged cooperation documents detailed a partnership between the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Indian Space Research Organisation. This bilateral pact covers collaboration in space research.

Indonesia and India also announced 15 other documents covering cooperation in various sectors, spanning defense, energy, health, culture, and technology.
