What Did Purbaya Say About Acting BI Governor Destry Damayanti?

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said acting Bank Indonesia Governor Destry Damayanti has extensive experience in monetary policy, expressing confidence that the central bank will maintain policy continuity following the leadership change.

"Mrs. Destry is not a new player. She is an experienced figure," Purbaya said in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 28.

Purbaya said Destry's experience at both Bank Indonesia and the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) has equipped her with the expertise needed to ensure the smooth implementation of monetary policy.

He also downplayed concerns that the change in Bank Indonesia's leadership would affect the Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK), noting that Destry has long been involved in the committee's work.

"In my view, not much has changed within the KSSK," Purbaya said.

Destry, who previously served as Bank Indonesia's Senior Deputy Governor, was appointed acting governor following the resignation of Perry Warjiyo.

The appointment was decided at a meeting of Bank Indonesia's Board of Governors on Sunday, July 26, and is in line with Law No. 23 of 1999 on Bank Indonesia, as most recently amended by Law No. 4 of 2026 on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector.

Following her appointment, Destry pledged to uphold strong institutional governance while maintaining close coordination with the government.

"Bank Indonesia will ensure the continuity of its duties and authority to achieve exchange rate stability, safeguard payment system stability, and contribute to maintaining financial system stability in support of sustainable economic growth," Destry said in a statement quoted by Antara on Monday, July 27.
