A Compromise in the Febrie Adriansyah Investigation

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - For the second time, Febrie Adriansyah underwent questioning at the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) complex on Friday afternoon, July 24, 2026. This time, he was summoned as a witness in a money laundering investigation stemming from the discovery of 74 kilograms of gold and foreign currency worth Rp476 billion (about US$26.4 million) at his home in Sentul, Bogor Regency, West Java.

After the questioning, Febrie did not return home. Prosecutors—many of whom had been his colleagues when he served as Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus)—decided to detain him. But instead of placing him in an AGO detention facility, they transferred him to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) detention center in Kuningan, South Jakarta.

He arrived at the KPK detention center at 11:22pm on Saturday, July 25. He walked in without handcuffs, still wearing the gray batik shirt he had on during questioning. The scene created the impression that Febrie was receiving special treatment. Suspects escorted by prosecutors are typically taken to the AGO detention facility wearing pink detainee vests and handcuffs.

Rudi Margono, the Deputy Attorney General for Supervision, said Febrie was placed in the KPK detention center to protect his former colleague. “He may be more comfortable there because he handled many high-profile cases,” Rudi said in the early hours of Saturday.
