Around 42% of Eid Travelers Have Not Yet Return to Jakarta

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The chief of the Indonesian Police's Traffic Corps, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, said about 42 percent of Eid travelers have yet to return to Jakarta as of Wednesday, March 25, 2026. These travelers are expected to return gradually to the capital by the end of this weekend.

"We are still managing this despite the end of Operation Ketupat," Agus said in a written statement in Semarang on Thursday, March 26, 2026, referring to the Indonesian police's Eid homecoming traffic task force. "The police are still bolstering our routine activities."

Meanwhile, the Integrated Police Operation or Operation Ketupat, has been concluded as of Wednesday, March 25, 2026, after kicking off previously on March 13, 2026.

The police said around 2 million Eid travelers have returned to Jakarta thus far, with an estimated 3.4 million in total entering the region throughout this holiday season.

To alleviate traffic congestion during the Eid homecoming return flow, the police are calling for the public to leverage the government's remote work (WFA) policy.

"Travelers can depart on March 25, 26, and 27 to alleviate the traffic during peak Eid homecoming return flow," said National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo when launching the national one-way traffic diversion scheme at the Kalikangkung Toll Gate, Central Java, on Tuesday, March 24 2026.

Based on the ministerial joint decree, the government has set the collective leave for Eid al-Fitr on March 20 to 24, 2026. In addition, through the Circular Letter of the Indonesian Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform No. 2 of 2026, the government has implemented the remote work (work from home—WFH) policy for public and private workers on March 26 and 27, 2026.
