TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's National Team defeated Oman 3-0 in a FIFA Matchday match at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Jakarta, on Friday night, June 5, 2026. This victory also marks the end of the Garuda squad's 38-year losing streak against Oman.
Indonesia's coach, John Herdman, deployed a 3-4-3 formation with Emil Audero Mulyadi guarding the goal. The trio of defenders consisted of Elkan Baggott, Justin Hubner, and captain Rizky Ridho. Kevin Diks and Nathan Tjoe-A-On patrolled the wings, while Ivar Jenner and Joey Pelupessy filled the midfield. Up front, Beckham Putra, Ole Romeny, and Ragnar Oratmangoen were the main players.
Oman, handled by Tariq Sektioui, played with a 4-3-3 formation. Ahmed Faraj Alrawahi was trusted to guard the goal, while the backline was made up of Ahmed Mohammed Alkhamisi, Amjad Abdullah Alharthi, Musab Mahfoodh Alshaqsi, and Yousuf Nashr Almalki.
Match Highlights
Indonesia immediately took the initiative in the attack from the early minutes. The first chance came in the sixth minute through a header by Nathan Tjoe-A-On, who capitalized on the teamwork of Kevin Diks and Rizky Ridho. However, the Omani defender was still able to clear the ball.
Indonesia finally took the lead in the 12th minute. Starting from Nathan's free-kick, Justin Hubner managed to head the ball into Ahmed Alrawahi's goal to bring the home team 1-0 ahead.
The Garuda Team doubled their lead in the 26th minute. Ole Romeny took advantage of a mistake by the Omani defense in controlling the ball. The 25-year-old striker took control of the ball and fired a shot that Alrawahi could not stop. This goal marked Romeny's fifth with the Indonesian national team.
Oman posed a threat two minutes later through Muhsen Al Ghassani's shot. However, Emil Audero was able to make the save. Oman's best opportunity to reduce the deficit came in the 37th minute when the referee awarded a penalty kick for Justin Hubner's foul on Amjad Abdullah Alharthi. However, Hatem Sultan Alrushadi failed to execute his task as the executioner, so the score remained 2-0 until halftime.
Indonesia dominated the first half, maintaining 65 percent ball possession compared to Oman's 35 percent. The Garuda Team also recorded four shots, two of which were on target.
Second Half
Entering the second half, Herdman made a change by bringing in Dony Tri Pamungkas to replace Hubner. Meanwhile, Oman withdrew Hatem Alrushadi and introduced Ahad Al Mashaikhi.
Oman came out more aggressively after halftime. Zahir Sulaiman had two chances in a row in the 50th and 52nd minutes. However, he failed to capitalize on them.
Instead, Indonesia further extended its lead in the 53rd minute. It started with Dony Tri's breakthrough pass to Ivar Jenner. The Dewa United midfielder then sent the ball into the penalty area, where Ragnar Oratmangoen scored. Indonesia led 3-0.
The pace of the game tended to decrease after the third goal. Oman made several substitutions by bringing in Hussain Al Shahri, Jameel Al Yahmadi, and Musab Al Maamari. However, the visiting team still struggled to penetrate Indonesia's disciplined midfield.
Herdman then made rotations in the 78th minute by bringing in Mauro Zijlstra, Mathew Baker, and Saddil Ramdani to replace Ole Romeny, Rizky Ridho, and Ragnar Oratmangoen.
Oman had one last opportunity in the 85th minute through a counter-attack finished by Musab Al Maamari. However, his shot flew over Emil Audero's crossbar.
In the second half, the match statistics were more balanced. Oman had the edge in ball possession with 52 percent compared to Indonesia's 48 percent. The away team also had five shots, while Indonesia only threatened the opponent's goal twice.
Nevertheless, Indonesia maintained its lead until the end of the match. This 3-0 victory marks the first victory for the Garuda Team over Oman since their last win at the King's Cup in 1988.
