TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ousmane Dembele, the French forward from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), has been named the 2025 Ballon d'Or winner. In the women's category, Spanish player Aitana Bonmatí of Barcelona secured the Ballon d'Or Feminin for the third consecutive year.

The awards ceremony took place at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, France, on the evening of Monday, September 22, 2025. Other notable honors were bestowed upon Luis Enrique, who was recognized as the Best Male Coach for leading PSG to a treble, while Hannah Hampton and Sarina Wiegman were named the Best Female Goalkeeper and Best Female Coach, respectively.

The Ballon d'Or, which translates to "Golden Ball," is an annual football accolade presented to the player deemed the best of the season. Established by France Football magazine, it is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious individual honors in the sport.

Initially, the award was determined by a vote of journalists from around the world. Since 2022, the voting process has been refined to include only journalists from the top 100 countries in the FIFA Men's World Ranking, ensuring a more focused and relevant selection pool.

From its inception in 1956 until 2006, the Ballon d'Or was exclusively for the best European player. The award's scope was broadened in 2007 to include the world's best player, regardless of nationality or league. Between 2010 and 2015, the Ballon d'Or was temporarily merged with the FIFA Best Player award.
