Trump Denies Negotiating with Iran Amid Rising Tensions

5 hours ago 3

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - United States President Donald Trump stated on Monday, June 30, 2025, that he had not made any offers to Iran and was not personally involved in any discussions with the country.

"Tell phony Democrat Senator Chris Coons that I am not offering Iran ANYTHING ... nor am I even talking to them," Trump said on Truth Social, dismissing all speculation about his talks with Tehran as reported by Newsweek and Anadolu.

The day before, Democrat Senator Chris Coons had stated on Fox News, "I'll just note that President Trump, by press accounts, is now moving towards negotiating and offering Iran a deal that looks somewhat similar to the Iran deal that was offered by Obama. Tens of billions of dollars of incentives and reduced sanctions in exchange for abandoning their nuclear program."

In addition to responding to Coons, Trump also criticized former President Barack Obama over the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). He referred to this agreement as "the stupid road to a Nuclear Weapon JCPOA (which would now be expired!)"

Trump's unilateral withdrawal from the deal in 2018 paved the way for the current standoff with Iran over its uranium enrichment program.

Trump also reiterated his claim that recent U.S. attacks have effectively destroyed Iran's nuclear facilities. However, U.S. intelligence reports indicate that the damage may have only delayed the program by months.

"I am not even talking to them since we totally OBLITERATED their Nuclear Facilities," he said, referring to the recent U.S. attacks on sites in Fordoe, Natanz, and Isfahan.

Trump's comments come amid ongoing international debate on the fate of Iran's enriched uranium reserves and questions about the possibility of returning to diplomatic engagement. While some U.S. officials have indicated an openness to dialogue, the former president's statements show a firm stance following the recent escalation between the two countries.

With both Washington and Tehran openly dismissing imminent talks, the future of nuclear diplomacy remains uncertain. American officials continue to assess the full impact of the attacks, while Iran's atomic energy body conducts its own evaluation of the damage.

On Sunday, Trump also posted, "MAKE THE DEAL IN GAZA. GET THE HOSTAGES BACK!!" a message interpreted as being directed at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
