Two Indonesian Restaurants Earn Spots on Asia's Best Restaurants 2026 List

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two restaurants from Indonesia made it to the list of Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2026, announced on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. August in Jakarta ranks 42nd, and Locavore NXT in Ubud ranks 44th.

According to its official website, August was founded by Chef Hans Christian and F&B professional Budi Cahyadi. August has been operating as a restaurant since late 2021. It first opened in 2019 as an intimate private dining experience. The restaurant has received the American Express One To Watch Award 2023 and has been listed among the top 50 Best Restaurants in Asia, ranking 46th in 2026 and 49th in 2025.

Locavore NXT in Ubud, Gianyar, Bali, is known for its unique use of local ingredients and exploration of Bali's produce. Indonesia Travel's website described the restaurant's food ingredients as selected with an approach that respects seasonality, sustainability, and the original characteristics of the ingredients.

The Best Restaurant in Asia title for the 14th edition was awarded to Kanton Chairman in Hong Kong. Hong Kong also secured the runner-up position with the modern fine-dining restaurant, Wing, while the progressive Indian restaurant, Gaggan in Bangkok, took the third position. Rounding out the top five are Mingles, a modern Korean restaurant in Seoul, and Nusara, a Thai restaurant in Bangkok.

Special awards were given to Lesley Liu, head sommelier at Odette for Best Sommelier in Asia, and Ardika Dwitama from August Jakarta for Best Pastry Chef. The only peer-voted award, the Chef's Choice Award, was presented to Thitid 'Ton' Tassanakajohn from Nusara and Le Du. Baan Tepa Bangkok (No. 53) received the Sustainable Restaurant Award.

A panel of 350 gender-balanced experts, including food writers, critics, chefs, restaurant owners, and culinary leaders from the region, determined the rankings. Professional services consultant Deloitte validated the results.
